Si se puede! Wonderful visual adaptation of the book that went beyond the words. This film has it all; direction, excellent cast, photography, etc., deserving Oscar nomination. Truly reflected the trails of women's rights that are part of America's history that continues today. Intend to watch again and again. Pros: I enjoyed getting to know Gloria Steinem, her history, and her contribution to society a little bit better. Well acted. Cons: The one huge drawback was the completely irrelevant impressionistic tableaus peppered throughout the film (The Wicked Witch, Durga, etc). Yeah, it's Julie Taymor, I get it; it's her thing. That's the problem: It's her thing. They had little to do with the story, (they actually take you Out of the story), and were therefore boring. I would have preferred Taymor trust the actors and a good writer to communicate any emotion necessary. The one contrivance I thought did make sense (even though I could have done without it as well) was the trope of the bus since it is about Gloria's "Life on the Road". As a side note, it also seemed to me that they switched actors (Vikander to Moore) too soon - speaking strictly age/time-wise. Overall: A good education, if a bit spotty (It's almost impossible to cover an entire life in 2 hours and do it justice. And no, the cut out art and special effects didn't help. ). I loved every minute of this movie!! Such a wonderful portrayal of a living legend. And so relevant to our current circumstances of the continued attempt to control women & strip our rights! Some things never change. Thank you Gloria Steinem for paving the way for the women of today as the fight continues! I'm a 75 year old woman who lived through this era of history. Excellent job of retelling how it was. VERY WELL DONE!
